How to Weigh Yourself
How do you weigh yourself? By stepping on the scale? How much your legs touch when you sit down? The pant size you wear, or the image you see in the mirror?
There are many tools we use to measure our weight: Scales, BMI, apple versus pear shape, etc. As a dietitian who has used these very tools to measure myself, I find them to be more destructive than helpful.
Can you relate?
Many of us cringe at the thought of stepping on a scale, much less having our bodies measured by tape measures or pant sizes. It doesn't help that we find it all too easy to use those numbers as ammunition against ourselves: "I will never lose weight." "I am fat." "I shouldn't have eaten that." This list goes on….
Try something new today
Put the scale away. Throw away the BMI chart. Do something that makes you feel good, and allow yourself to do it. You are amazing just the way you are—because of all the things you accomplish and the change you make in the world just by being in it.
Say one good thing about yourself right now—say it OUT LOUD! You are deserving of love, self-compassion and acceptance, just the way you are. Start by offering that to yourself today.
I know I talk a lot about "healthy changes." But today, forget about change and just BE YOU. Because you are enough.
